Super Youth collagen infused pumpkin butter

Can you smell it? Pumpkin is the air in all its glorious forms. Pumpkin soup. Pumpkin bagels. PSL (obviously). Pumpkin creamer. Pumpkin pancakes. From crave-worthy to cringe-worthy, ideas for gourde grub are endless this time of year. But an easy and always-appetizing go-to is this simple, healthy pumpkin butter recipe. I’ll use this pumpkin butter as a spread, topping, or paired with goat cheese all autumn and well through winter. Not just for flavor either—do you notice your joints aching and cracking a bit more than usual when the temperature drops? Yeah, me too—well this sweet pumpkin spread features a secret ingredient that helps reduce my joint pain and even keeps my skin healthy through these cold, dry nights.

What Is Pumpkin Butter?

Fun fact—pumpkin butter is not actually pumpkin-flavored butter. Which, surprisingly, is not even available at Trader Joe’s. You know, the same grocer who sells pumpkin samosas and pumpkin empanadas. Seriously… you have gourd to be kidding me!

Pumpkin butter is akin to pumpkin spread, or a thick jam. It’s super versatile and is perfect on or in treats, such as toast or pumpkin-pecan pie.

And, this particular pumpkin butter recipe just so happens to be healthy too. It’s light on sugar and packed with micronutrients your body needs to function optimally. Unlike other pumpkin butter recipes, this pumpkin spread can help improve the look and elasticity of your skin, fortify your joints from wear and tear, and help improve your digestive balance—all of which you’ll appreciate during these upcoming cold and culinarily rich months ahead!

Here are some ideas for unique pumpkin butter recipe pairings.

What To Do With Pumpkin Butter

Variety is the (pumpkin) spice of life, right?. Well this pumpkin spread goes with so many of your favorite dishes, you’ll have food ideas for the rest of the season. Here are seven of my favorites:

  • Fresh-baked sourdough topped with pumpkin spread & ricotta cheese. Layer a thick slice of toasted sourdough with ricotta, and smear the ricotta with this pumpkin spread for a coffee shop-quality morning treat.
  • Cheese & crackers with homemade pumpkin butter. Pair this pumpkin butter recipe with brie or goat cheese for the perfect home happy hour appetizer.
  • Pumpkin butter on waffles or pancakes. The brown sugar and pure maple syrup in this pumpkin butter recipe begs to be swathed across fluffy pancakes and waffles.
  • Blend into your smoothie. A spoonful of pumpkin spread actually goes great in a peanut butter and banana smoothie!
  • Greek yogurt pumpkin butter topper makes for just the right amount of autumn flavor for breakfast. (Pro tip: swap granola for seasonal pecans)
  • Dip your fruit in it! This pumpkin butter recipe is great for dipping apples, pears, and other crunchy fruits into. I also love sticking to seasonal fruits that are harvested throughout the autumn!!
  • Peanut-and-pumpkin butter sandwich. Just when you thought the perfect lunch sandwich couldn’t get any better. It did.

How To Make Pumpkin Butter

This pumpkin spread is surprisingly easy to make. The hardest part about this pumpkin butter recipe is holding back from eating the whole thing at once.

It’s just a matter of putting all the ingredients in a saucepan and bringing to a boil. Let that cook for 20 minutes over low heat, stirring often to get the perfect texture. When the pumpkin has caramelized, it’s ready!

Health Benefits

But what about those aforementioned benefits of this pumpkin spread? Let’s take a look:

  • Cinnamon has widespread, known medical benefits, including combating inflammation, oxidative stress, and even diabetes. [1]
  • Cloves are shown to support liver function, stabilize blood sugar levels, and fight chronic illness by also reducing oxidative stress. [2, 3, 4]
  • Ginger has been relied on for centuries as a powerful natural medicine. It’s known to reduce oxidation and inflammation, but has also been proven to lower LDL levels ( bad cholesterol), treat chronic indigestion by shortening the time food stays in your stomach, and is purported to help menstrual pain. [5, 6, 7]
  • Collagen, the most abundant protein found in our bodies, begins to fade come your mid-20s. 😭  Replacing your body with high-quality collagen, like Super Youth multi-collagen peptides, significantly helps to reduce many common signs and effects of aging. For instance, it helps thicken hair, improve skin elasticity, strengthen joints, and fight osteoporosis and joint pain. [8, 9, 10, 11

This is perhaps the healthiest pumpkin butter recipe I’ve come across. And it’s definitely the most delicious!
